Looking over the foreground roofs of a BMC Farina, MkI Consul, A40 Devon, Hillman Husky and the cosy Tardis-like attendant’s hut, that middle row gives us a typical cross-section of what was on the road at the time.

New York Classics During The War

This New York scene was pictured 70 years ago almost to the day, on January 2, 1942. The USA had just entered the war after Japan’s surprise attack on Pearl Harbour, and to conserve metal for armament no front number plates were to be fitted to cars for the next three years.

A Seasonal View of Sheffield

A seasonal early-Sixties scene, with traffic wending its wintry way home along Sheffield’s pre-pedestrianised Moor. Despite the murky conditions, people are driving with then typical British reserve on sidelights. Nowadays it’s the other way round, with many drivers using foglights even when they’re not needed.
