HERALD PUB SAVED The Triumph Sport Six Club has managed to save an important piece of Triumph’s history from destruction by relocating the Herald pub to its museum in Leicestershire.
The Herald pub for many years was based on Canley Road, Coventry, and was a favourite drinking spot for the workers at the Triumph factory. Unfortunately last year the pub was due for demolition to make way for a home for the elderly.
After some detective work on the part of the TSSC, its members managed to gain permission from the developers to remove the bar, pub sign and other mementoes. All of which was then brought back to the Club’s museum and carefully reinstated by a group of volunteers, for the benefit of TSSC members.
The new Herald bar was officially opened last month in its new location at the TSSC’s Open Weekend, held on December 3.
General manager at the TSSC Nigel Clark was pleased this piece of Triumph heritage could be saved, saying : “Now members can have a drink at the same bar where the men who made their cars enjoyed a pint after work!”
BABY FIATS AT BROOKLANDS The Fiat 500 Enthusiasts’ Club was one of many car clubs celebrating the New Year by attending the New Year’s Day Gathering at Brooklands.
As usual this first event of the year, which is probably the largest New Year’s Day Gathering in the South East, was extremely well attended with all manner of classic, vintage and veteran cars on display.
Membership secretary of the Fiat 500 Enthusiasts’ Club, Steven Abbott, was there and reports that despite the weather spoiling itself later on in the day, it was nonetheless a massive success.
He said: “We had four 500s (a D, two Fs and an L) plus a 126 BIS and an 850. We met up at around 10am for coffee and bacon rolls then had a wander around the museum looking at the Concorde, Wellington, Hurricane, plus the vintage cars and all things history that Brooklands does so well.”

HUMBER HERITAGE The Post Vintage Humber Car Club has launched a new DVD and re-launched a popular book for Humber enthusiasts to enjoy.
The main feature on the DVD is a rare film of the launch of the Series I Hawk in 1957, made by the Stanley Schofield film production for the Rootes Group. A member of the public sent the club a 16mm film that he found in his garage.
Added to the DVD are three other films including ‘Destination Capetown’, the story of Rootes garage owner George Hinchcliffe who Rootes gave a new MkIV Super Snipe in 1952 to take on the London to Cape Town run.
The republished book is ‘Humber – An Illustrated history’, a long out of print book that’s considered to be the definitive history of the marque.
The book is lavishly illustrated throughout using photographic achieves showing both pre- and post-Rootes cars.
The DVD is priced £20 for club members (plus £2 p&p), whereas the book is £25 (£3 p&p). Cheques should be made payable to PVHCC Ltd.
Both are available from Geoff Roberts, Flat 10, Wellgate House, Lillian Street, Rotherham, S60 2QB.
