AUTOSPORT INTERNATIONAL 2012
Wednesday, 18 January 2012 00:00

It’s the first major car show of the year, and for many motorsport fans, it’s the highlight. Autosport International is the largest gathering of famous motorsport cars, drivers and personalities from around the globe and offers show goers the chance to see some of the latest developments in an ever-changing and booming industry.

This year, crowds were treated to a display of 2011 F1 machines, including the Red Bull Renault which allowed Sebastian Vettel to take his second world title. Other more classic era machines included a display celebrating 60 years of Formula 3, with classic Fifties machines piloted by Stirling Moss and Bernard Ecclestone. Ex-works Ford RS200s and several Sierra Cosworths took centre stage on the British rally icons stand and former DTM BMW M3s raced in the Eighties kept the Teutonic touring car fans happy.

Alongside this prodigious and glamorous event, Coys auctioneers held a very successful sale of ex-racing cars and performance road cars. Among our favourites were a Metro 6R4 that gave Ayrton Senna his first taste of rallying, an AC Ace with full FIA papers, a ready to race 1964 Ford Anglia that had proved its worth at the 2011 Goodwood Revival and a very tidy and extremely eligible in most classic saloon categories, 1957 Hillman Minx.

Autosport is a must attend show for any car fan, but if you do fancy getting involved in motorsport, at whatever level, this show allows you to chat and get all the information you need to get from your driveway to a podium as soon as possible.
